One image that has stuck out in my head is the phoenix rising. I love everything it represents. No matter how far down you fall, you can be 'born again' and come back stronger than you were before. Something about the idea of a small spark of new hope and a new beginning in the midst of total pain and suffering appeals to me. I love to see how artists interpret this idea. Some of them are literal and some are more abstract. I am currently working on a large painting of the phoenix rising to put in my apartment. I am using different ideas from different phoenix pictures I have seen and sort of blending them all together and making it my own.
On the flip side, another image that has always inspired me is the fallen angel. It may sound cliche, but, I love the vulnerability expressed by these images. No matter how high we think we are flying, something will always bring us crashing back down to the ground. I think it's these moments who make us who we really are.
